Temporary Skill Shortage Visa
(Subclass 482- TSS)

This visa category is the primary tool used for Australian organisation to access international talent to fill labour gaps in the economy on a temporary basis.

This visa is valid for @ or 4 years, depending on the applicants listed occupation.
This visa is a temporary visa, however, for certain listed occupations may lead to permanent residence.

There are three steps when applying for the visa.

  1. Employer – Receives Standard Business Sponsorship
  2. Employer – Nominates the occupation and the applicant
  3. Employee – applies for the visa

If the applicant occupation is set out in the current Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) , you may be eligible to apply for a Permanent Residence (PR) visa.

You will be eligible for PR when/if:

A visa on the Short-Term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) occupation does not lead to permanent residency. [One may however apply for points test PR visas].

If eligible to apply for the Permanent Resident Visa – sc 186 Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS), Temporary Resident Transition stream certain criteria have to be met

ENS requires the applicant to have been nominated by a lawfully operating business in Australia.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) subclass 187 visa has been discontinued.
The replacement visa is the sc494 visa.
