Permanent
Resident Visas

You can apply for these subclasses in one of three ways.

The first option is to apply for a permanent visa from the outset.

The points tested visas for example the sc189 Skilled – Independent Visa, and the sc189 Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) visa. This last visa requires a contract of employment.

The second option is to apply for a permanent resident visa after holding a PROVISIONAL visa for a specified time and meeting the visa conditions.

An example of this pathway is holding a NEW sc491 Skilled Regional Visa, then applying for the permanent resident visa sc191.

The third option is for example to apply for a sc482 Temporary Skills Shortage Visa. The visa holder’s occupation must me on the current Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MTSSL). Having met these visa conditions the holder can, for example, apply the sc186 ENS visa.

Partner visas also are a two-step visa application. The first being a temporary visa. Once the conditions have been met one applies/transitions to a permanent residency visa.

Parent Visa and child visas are examples of permanent visas.
